I will come around and help you. Have a student read the questions on the bottom of the And Then What Happened worksheet and encourage a few students share their answers orally. I show the video about the 5 w's of a story or event. We refer to the questions on the board. Ask students to make a prediction about what the story will be about, based on their vocabulary words and definitions. What is happening in the story? I will erase the board and see if you can look at the picture and write your 5 W questions. Reiterate that learning words from the story will help them understand, or comprehend, the story better. I will choose a friend to tell me the question their partner said. I decided today we would work on my students thinking about what the questions could be and not just me asking the questions and them answering them.
Clarify that the words on their vocabulary cards are all nouns. Then I ask them to ask a question about each W. Ask students if they can help you remember what a noun is.
Explain to the students that today they will be reading a story and figuring out what is happening in the story, using the 5 W's.
